Married at First Sight Australia has made history with a "controversial decision" that saw an original bride and groom re-enter the experiment to marry new partners.

Earlier this month, groom Eliot Donovan dramatically exited the experiment after just three days when his bride Lauren Hall failed to live up to his long list of requirements.

Tonight, for the first time in MAFS history, Lauren and Eliot returned to the show to marry someone else. First up, a "sceptical" Lauren tied the knot with golf pro Clint Rice.

After telling Clint about Eliot, Lauren eventually warmed to Clint. Clint said: "I'm glad that he packed his bags and took off because he doesn't deserve Lauren at all."

On the honeymoon, the couple grew closer, and Lauren noted: "We have actual conversations, we both want to be here."

Next up was Eliot's "controversial" return to the experiment, a decision the experts said they didn't take lightly, with sexologist Alessandra Rampolla saying she is "on the fence" about the groom.

Eliot was matched with Veronica Cloherty, who turned up to her wedding to find that Adrian had no guests. Hinting that this is his second marriage of the season, Eliot said in his vows: "It's not every day you get to marry a stranger, in fact for me, it's more like every week".

Despite explaining that his first marriage lasted "like, three full days," the pair still made it to their honeymoon, where Veronica opened up about her endometriosis diagnosis.

After telling Eliot it might be difficult for her to have children, Eliot said it's not his "perfect future" but that he just wants someone like Veronica who is "open and excited and enthusiastic to have a family".

Elsewhere, groom Adrian threatened to leave the experiment after being left out of one picture during a publicity shoot. He packed his bags and left his wedding ring on the side.

"I'm pissed off that I'm not in the promo. It's disrespectful, and I'm not going to be treated like that," he said on the phone to Awhina before hanging up, saying he won't return unless he is put in the promo.

"A promo shoot's not what you came here for; it's not a reasonable reason to leave," Awhina said before adding that their marriage might be over.
