Love Island star Maura Higgins has confirmed her relationship status amid rumours of romance with Pete Wicks.

The reality stars have been at the centre of rumours in recent months, notably after reportedly being seen sharing a kiss – though Maura has set the record straight in a new interview.

Asked about dating the Strictly Come Dancing star, she told The Sun: "I’m not, I’m not. Where have you heard that? I mean, I date, but I’m very much single."

After being pressed on whether she had been on a date with Pete, Maura added: "I mean, I’ve been on a date with many people."

It comes after the star clarified last month on the We Need to Talk with Paul C Brunson podcast that she and Pete are just friends.

"We're friends. Do you know what's so weird? We met very soon after me coming off [Love Island] and we just instantly clicked. Our humour is the same. It’s like that sick, dark humour. It's very abusive. We abuse each other. Very nasty, hilarious. We just get on very, very well. Very, very well. I adore him, he’s amazing."

Maura added: "It probably does look like, 'Oh, there must be something there.' I've been put with guys on the media that I've never even kissed. I'm like, 'Come on.' It's just like if I'm seen with a man, I'm sleeping with him."

Maura recently poked fun at the rumours alongside Pete's close friend Sam Thompson on social media.

Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
