Zayn Malik has postponed the upcoming US leg of his tour following the death of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne.

The singer was set to take his Stairway to the Sky Tour to San Francisco on Wednesday (October 23), and visit Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington and New York over the next week and a half.

But, as he announced on social media, those dates have now been pushed back by a few months.

"Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I've made the decision to postpone the US leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY Tour," he wrote.

"The dates are being rescheduled for January and I'll post them as soon as it's all set in the next few days. Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for your understanding."

Zayn is also set to play a series of UK dates between November 20 and December 4. At the time of writing, these are still going ahead as planned.

Following his death, his family have asked for privacy to process their loss, while tributes have been published by his girlfriend, sister, X Factor mentor Simon Cowell, his ex and son's mum, Cheryl, and the remaining members of One Direction.

In Zayn's post, he wrote: "I lost a brother when you left us and can't explain to you what I'd give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly."
