Ratings dipped to 3.3m viewers midweek after John's departure but have since climbed again with around 700,000 more tuning in.
The show beat a BBC2 docu-drama about Albert Einstein's life attracted 1.9 million viewers; while Five's movie repeat Memphis Belle was watched by 1.3 million.
