'The X Factor' 2013 Movie Week live blog: As it happened

Join Digital Spy for the third week of live shows as the hopefuls go Hollywood.
Headshot of Catriona WightmanBy Catriona WightmanPublished: 26 October 2013

We're already into our third week of X Factor live shows, so it's time to inject a little bit of Hollywood glamour into proceedings - enter Movie Week! This has always been a good one for Louis Walsh's rulebook (or, alternatively, Louis Walsh's bizarre choice of a song from Gummo) so let's hope for some more drama tonight.

With Miss Dynamix back in the mix, Abi Alton (hopefully) not too injured after last week's fall and Nicole Scherzinger suitably filled up with Greggs sausage rolls, who knows what could be happening?

Well, Digital Spy will be here to bring you all the action, so join us when the show starts at 8pm on ITV to find out what's going down as Hollywood meets X Factor. And make sure you to get in on the fun by leaving your comments below and on our Twitter page...

21:57So that's that then! Tomorrow we have The Wanted and Lady Gaga to look forward to, plus of course an excellent group performance and naturally an elimination. What are your thoughts? Who was your favourite? Is it right Miss Dynamix lost the vote? Who should join them in the bottom two? Let us know all your comments, and we'll see you back here tomorrow...
21:55Miss Dynamix lost the Flash Vote and will be performing for their LIVES (or the chance to continue in a singing competition) tomorrow. They say they're speechless, which is great for live TV. Still, SeSe does at least joke that they're on "vocal rest". Jeanette says they have an advantage because they have more time to practise, which would be true except for the fact that they were meant to do 'Dreams' last week so technically had a fortnight to rehearse...
21:54The final safe category is THE BOYS. So, who do you think is in danger? Kingsland Road again? Or maybe Miss Dynamix? Hoping it's not Rough Copy...
21:53The next category to be named safe is... THE OVER 25s. In other words, Sam Bailey. Sharon's not out in three weeks, then.
21:53Right: the first category that is safe is... THE GIRLS. So Abi is safe, even though a bunch of you thought she might be in danger. Nicole can only say: "Good girls." Lovely.
21:52Nicole says no one is ever safe but her girls gave it their all. Good to know that the judges manage to avoid those clichés.
21:51Here we go, it's time for the Flash Vote results! Obviously, first the X Factor judges have to come out to all the big bombast again. Sharon says she's "desperate". Louis, hide.
21:46Right then, we've got an advert break, so it's time for you to tell me who you think will have lost the Flash Vote. GO.
21:46FLASH VOTE IS CLOSED. Someone's fate is sort of sealed!
21:45The best thing about the Flash Vote is definitely the fact that it's a chance for the contestants to wheel out all the clichés we've heard a million times before. We've already had "I have so much more to give" and "I hope everyone sees how much I want it".
21:44All the acts are back on the stage now for the Flash Vote countdown. Time for some awkward conversation! Sam Bailey mainly wants to stay around because the boys need a "mum" in the house. That's cute.
21:42Gosh, the Flash Vote does allow for a lot of filler, doesn't it.
21:38There is something to be said for this point of view...

It's just not the same when nobody is crying on Beyoncé. #xfactor

— Steven Perkins (@stevenperkins) October 26, 2013

21:37FLASH VOTE IS OPEN. Who are you voting for?
21:36Gary says some of the performance made him think of Stars In Their Eyes because she was impersonating Beyoncé. Louis disagrees - there's a bit of a judges' spat. But Nicole's on Tamera's side - she thinks she has "balls". Everyone that had Nicole saying "balls" on their bingo card... go ahead and cross that one off. What did you think of Tamera?
21:35Oh God, Tamera just took her heels off to get off the piano and now I love her even more. Louis says she stole the show and has "star quality", while Sharon calls her "Tamara" and says she is the ideal popstar ("You have everything going for you"). But she does want more soul.

21:33Here we go - Tamera does look stunning blonde, to be fair. This is obviously a nightmare of a song to sing, but Tamera is wonderful. Clearly, they've saved the best for last. The way she's strutting around the stage and climbing on a piano like she's been doing this for years is just great. The vocal is not 100% perfect, but it's very, very good. As Louis would say, she's a little popstar.
21:32Anyway, a video of 12-year-old Tamera singing 'Listen' is very cute. Plus, she's getting a makeover - time to go blonde! Seriously, I'm expecting Tyra Banks to pop up at any minute telling someone she'll make them look like Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby. (Sorry for the niche America's Next Top Model reference...)
21:30We've just got one contestant left now... it's Tamera Foster! She's going to be singing Beyoncé's 'Listen' from Dreamgirls. She says that she grew up wanting to be Beyoncé. It makes me sad thinking about how young 16-year-old Tamera was when 'Crazy In Love' came out. Might cry again.
21:25Backstage, Tamera's being pulled away to the stage, while Abi's recovering and saying maybe it was the wrong choice of song. Her parents are there to say how well she's doing though, so that's nice.
21:24Luke says "learning" about twenty times, so much so that Dermot calls him Confucius. Who thought you'd ever hear about Chinese philosophers on The X Factor? But what did you think of Luke?
21:23Nicole agrees with all the positive comments, and says she likes seeing him with his guitar. Also, that she's going to bury his face in his hair. Seriously, I am feeling sorry for the X Factor's HR department. Anyway, Louis loved it and points out that Luke chose the song himself.
21:23Sharon says Luke has a "distinctive" vocal sound that sets him aside - he has a pop-rock thing and an edge. She also likes that he's "dirty". What with this and Nicole's raining cheese it's all getting a bit unsettling. Anyway, back to Luke - she's pleased with his improvement, and so is Gary. He says it was the surprise of the night. He loved it!

21:21So, Luke's singing 'Kiss From A Rose'. Now, I was privy to some of DS's finest celebrating a birthday and belting this out at a karaoke bar last night, so there's a high bar for him to beat. Luckily, Luke is playing guitar and his voice is not flawless - a bit 'pitchy' as they say - but has a nice gravelly quality to it this week. Not sure about the key change, though. And you know I love a key change.
21:19Apparently Luke's hair smells better now. I don't even want to think about what it smelled like before.
21:19Time for Luke Friend! He's come up with a name for his supporters - "Friendies". Seriously, his name is Friend and that's the best that he could come up with? But here we go. Here is the big news. He's going to get his hair washed.
21:17Sharon agrees it had a musical feel, but she says the boys tick all the right boxes. They just need to hold back a little. As for Gary, he says at least Kingsland Road didn't perform a ballad. That's certainly true. So, are you going to save Kingsland Road from Flash Vote Fear this week?
21:17Nicole disagrees with me - she thinks they had great harmonies and lead vocals, though she does say it's "raining a little bit of cheese". "I want it to rain all over me," she adds. That sounds unsavoury. She thinks it was their best performance though. Louis agrees it was improved and says he's happy about the hair... he thinks the song choice was lazy and West End-ish.

21:16Oof. I mean, I see potential in Kingsland Road because they're have a 'look' and a 'feel' but this is not a good vocal performance. And the dancing is so old-fashioned. At least they haven't bobbed around with their arms around each other's shoulders to show how buddy they are.
21:14Anyway, Kingsland Road are doing 'Pretty Woman' and their hair actually seems under control. Now they genuinely look a bit like Westlife, if Westlife didn't wear nicely tailored suits.
21:13Kingsland Road are up next, and they watch their performances again to see how they can avoid the bottom two this time around. They go back to, er, Kingsland Road. The last time I was there it was 2am on a Saturday and I couldn't get a taxi. I'm presuming they have better memories.
21:11It has to be said that most of you lot do not seem impressed with this week's performances so far. But wait, stop everything, Little Mix are in the audience. Miss Dynamix, take note. This is a girl band.
21:09Thanks to DS commenter CinnamonBrick for giving us an ad-break giggle with this comment: "They dressed Sam up as The Heart of the Ocean for an uber movie reference."
21:07DS reporter Sam has a bone to pick with Gary...

Having seen Celine Dion perform that song live I can tell you that Sam's version definitely WASN'T better. #XFactor

— Sam Rigby (@SDRigby) October 26, 2013

What to Read Next

21:05Louis says Sam was like a Disney princess, which I think is a good thing. And Sharon says she hopes Simon Cowell is watching because she wants him to sign her right now. Not sure that reminding everyone of Simon Cowell - and how he's not on this show any more - is a good thing.
21:04Anyway, enough of that. The audience is absolutely loving it, and Gary says Sam sang it better than when he saw Celine in Las Vegas (I would love to go to Vegas with Gary). Nicole calls the performance "majestical" - though she didn't like the dancers either - and takes a page out of Louis's book by calling her the UK's Celine Dion.
21:03No pool. Little bit disappointed. Sam is singing the song very well, and yes, it's very 'movie'. But ugh, there's no way that you can make it interesting, is there? I mean, so dreary. It's not Sam's fault - she's properly belting it out and has a stunning voice. I could do without the ballroom dancers in the background too. It's like how they made Titanic more dramatic by putting Leonardo DiCaprio in handcuffs while the ship was filling with water, like hundreds of people drowning wasn't quite enough.
21:01Sam is not very happy about singing 'My Heart Will Go On' because she was on a cruise ship and she had to sing that... in the middle of a huge storm. She vowed never to sing it again. Except now she is going to have to. At least she'll be on solid ground, though I wouldn't put it past The X Factor producers to install a pool just for her performance.
21:00It's time for Sharon's last hope of winning... Sam Bailey! She's gushing about giving autographs and getting a photo with McFly. To be fair, I'm just jealous. I want a photo with McFly.
20:59Nicole's backing Abi, but it doesn't seem like you lot thought much of her...

Abi you worked so hard this week... You could feel that song meant a lot to you and I'm proud of you

— Nicole Scherzinger (@NicoleScherzy) October 26, 2013

20:54Sharon complains that SeSe sang through her nose, and also complains of the lack of connection. Still, Gary says the criticism is unfair and says it's nice having SeSe back. SeSe is just hoping that the public give them another chance and says she doesn't want to keep going on about last week or use it as an excuse. So, public, are you going to give Miss Dynamix another chance?
20:53Nicole's first up to speak and there's kind of an awkward silence at first. She praises them for sticking together and the song choice, but it's clear she was not impressed. She's trying to be nice but says she doesn't think the energy or vocals were really there. It's feeling a little tense. And Louis tells them to spend less time on Twitter and more time on rehearsals. He thinks they're not working as a group.

20:51Miss Dynamix are doing 'Dreams', and SeSe's kicking off with a solo, so that's her story arc nicely completed. But otherwise, this isn't really making me like Miss Dynamix any more. They're okay but there's really not much to this performance. Oh wait, I spoke too soon - amazing record-scratch key change alert.
20:49Time for Miss Dynamix! We're getting to see some backstage footage of SeSe's dramatic hospital trip last week, but it's fine, because she's alright! But she is upset about people saying she shouldn't be there when she's pregnant. "Stop going on Twitter," Gary advises. Wise words.
20:48Oh, yay, backstage action. Sam agrees that tonight's performance might be his weakest, but it's The X Factor, not The Voice. I don't know if that had the meaning he wanted it to.
20:46Sharon says she just wants the "X Factor" oozing from Abi, telling her not to cry. Nicole is being very nice, too, saying Sharon's just trying to help (isn't it lovely when the judges get along?) Also, Nicole turns Abi's tears into a positive, saying it shows her vulnerability. What do you think about Abi?
Eyewear, Glasses, Audio equipment, Microphone, Entertainment, Music artist, Performing arts, Purple, Singing, Performance, pinterest

20:45Gary says they've lost the "artist" in Abi and it's all being too "over-thought". Abi looks like she might cry. Oh God, she is crying. I might cry. I'm too over-tired for this. Nicole is backing her all the way, obviously.
20:45So, lovely or boring? YOU DECIDE. Louis thinks it was fantastic and put her back in the race, and Sharon thinks it was sung beautifully and bravely. But she does say people will put on the kettle when Abi sings because she has no performance. Apparently, she has no charisma. Ouch. So, straw poll - who went and made a cuppa?
20:43I've always liked Abi more than her performances, and I was kind of dreading this because I love the movie and the song. Still, it's pretty pleasant - not perfect, but way, way better than last time. And very simple.
20:42I LOVE Breakfast At Tiffanys. I LOVE pyjamas. The fact that Nicole invited Abi over to her house to watch it in her jammies with popcorn - because she's singing 'Moon River' - has actually made me furious. She got to do that and hang out with Chris Hemsworth. I might cry.
20:41Nicholas's godfather in his tartan cap and ginger wig might be my favourite person on the show right now. Still, time for Abi Alton, who says she wants to be "a little bit more Abi" after her not-so-good performance last week.
20:39We've heard that Sam Bailey is a little bit nervous about tonight... and it's because her song brings back bad memories. It involves a cruise ship. If you want some ad break reading, just pop over here...
20:37Also, DS reporter Meg has a burning question that she needs your help with:

So, I'm going back a few years, but is Ronnie's long-lost daughter from Eastenders sitting behind Nicole or am I going crazy? #XFactor

— Meg Drewett (@megdrewett) October 26, 2013

20:36So, time for another ad break then. What are you thinking so far? Leave your comments below... seems like Davieboy999 isn't having much fun so far. Are you?
20:35Louis just urged everyone from Scotland to vote for Nicholas - get your bingo cards out again. And Sharon is now saying Nicholas is not 16 but 'sex-teen'. So that's, um, appropriate.
20:34Gary says that was another great performance but he wants Nicholas to "celebrate" being 16 and not be too serious all the time, but Nicole thinks there's a gap in the industry for him. She also wheels out Louis's "baby Bublé" line. I thought that was over! Also, she says she wants to go sailing with him. I don't really know why.
Ear, Microphone, Chin, Forehead, Eyebrow, Dress shirt, Audio equipment, Collar, Jaw, Spokesperson, pinterest

20:33I kind of love Sharon for asking how old Nicholas is. You go, Sharon. Anyway, she loved Nicholas's "spectacular" emotion, says he sang it to perfection and, er, says he looks like a "big boy". I know what she meant, but, er...
20:32First proper big key change of the night, though, so there's that.
20:31Nothing against Nicholas - he has a very nice, clean voice and is a lovely singer. But this song is a bit of a yawnfest, and seriously, those dancers doing a bit of stretching in the background? The whole thing just screams Louis Walsh.
20:30Nicholas McDonald is up next. Louis is shocked he's heard of the song 'In The Arms Of An Angel' because he's so young. This obviously leads into us seeing Nicholas learning how to use a washing machine - after all, he's "just 16". I don't care unless he's going to come over and do my laundry for me.
20:28Gary doesn't think that anyone else can beat Hannah's performance... That's nice for Miss Dynamix and Kingsland Road eh? Anyway, Nicole is obviously raving about Hannah and says she's proud of her. To be fair, it was easily the best performance so far.
20:27Louis loved Hannah - emotional, powerful, soulful, he says. And he gives her ten out of ten! As for Sharon, she thinks Hannah has an "unstoppable" voice and has found her comfort zone. Overall, she thinks it was "magnificent" and names her a real contender. Because Sharon has to go further than Louis, she calls her a 30 out of 10.
20:26Ooh, I do love it when the pyrotechnics get wheeled out. How long until Louis says Hannah was on fire?
20:25Hannah's been struggling with a high note in rehearsals, but her rendition of 'Skyfall' has started pretty smoothly. Actually, it's really quite good, and not just an Adele rip-off either. I've not been much of a Hannah fan up until now, so consider this high praise.

20:24And... we're back! Up next, it's time for Hannah Barrett. So, get ready - Nicole's going to be introduced to Greggs sausage rolls. How impromptu, spontaneous and natural! Greggs must be thrilled about this free advertising, too. I mean, I've just had a pizza but now I'm craving a cheese and bean slice.
20:17Louis defends Sam - the old "hard-working" thing again - but Sam tells Dermot the song choice changed last minute. Drama! But what did you think of Sam?
20:17Here we go, Sharon's already questioning the choice of song. Sharon has apparently never heard of Reality Bites. Anyway, she wants more edge from Sam, and Gary says it was a "weak vocal performance". Nicole agrees - she says Sam is getting stronger but sang a "watered down version" of the track. This is all very awkward, isn't it?
20:15Okay, so this song has been in movies - Reality Bites and Contagion - but it's not exactly known for that is it? Bending the rules a bit Louis aren't we. Anyway, the performance is fine. Sam is fine. But I was more interested in looking up which movie it was in to be honest.

20:13The contestants got to go to the Thor premiere this week, and Sam is basically most excited about the carpet being red. But here he is on stage, belting out 'All I Want Is You'.
20:11Time for Sam Callahan though! He's talking about photoshoots and being Torso of the Week in Heat. So we get to see him ripping off his shirt. I suppose there will be some people that are quite happy about that.
20:11Yikes, Gary's not going to be very happy with Howard Donald...

Totally uncool song for this group

— Howard Donald (@HowardDonald) October 26, 2013

20:10Sharon thinks the performance was "uplifting" and almost everything about the performance... including the outfits. And Gary reveals that the boys came up with the song choice themselves. He's obviously very pleased with them! What did you think of Rough Copy?
20:09Nicole is trying to squeeze them, or something. Anyway, she says they never disappoint, praises the solos... but points out a couple of pitch issues. Still, she wants to go to their concert, and Louis calls it "absolutely brilliant". Apparently they're a UK version of Boyz II Men. Scratch off 'Louis makes a comparison' on your X Factor Bingo cards!
20:08I actually do very much enjoy Rough Copy, and despite a couple of stumbles that was a pretty solid performance... if not exactly the most relevant song they could have gone for. It was all a bit stools and key change, wasn't it?
20:07'(Everything I Do) I Do It For You' never really had enough exposure so it's nice the boys are resurrecting it, isn't it? Anyway, it's all very nice but I'm so distracted by their blinding white outfits. I think Gary might be reliving his past through them.
20:05Rough Copy are up first and we're getting some seriously heartwarming footage of Sterling's mum. She's no Christopher Maloney's nan, but it's early days.
20:04Nicole falling over, staring into the camera and hoisting up her dress might be the highlight of the night. It's all downhill from here.
20:03Have the judges gone full Hollywood glam with their looks tonight? Well, Gary is holding a lightsaber. JJ Abrams, sign him up now.
20:02Dermot O'Leary is definitely looking as suave as a leading man...
20:00Here we go! Is everyone excited? And what are you hoping to see? Which word will Nicole add "sch" to this week? What will make Gary grumpy? And will Sharon and Louis be squabbling or smooching? Leave your predictions below!
19:55Righto everyone - we're just one ad break away from our latest slice of X Factor action. To get in the mood, you can read up on the song list here if you so fancy. Spoiler: it's a travesty that Chad Kroeger's 'Hero' isn't on the bill.
