Strictly Come Dancing star Joe Sugg has teased a series of "twists and turns" in his new audio podcast series.

'Username Resurgent' is a 10-episode audio adventure centred on a true-crime story set in the same world as Sugg's bestselling Username comic books. The influencer has created and written Resurgent, even lending his voice to a character for the series.

The podcast cast also includes Queen Charlotte's India Amarteifio and Shadow and Bone star Kit Young, with India playing lead character Serena Hall. When her brother Silas goes missing, Serena takes it upon herself to investigate, unearthing a previously unknown involvement in a digital entity known as The Angel of E.Scape.

"It’s 10 episodes of twists and turns," Sugg told Digital Spy in an exclusive interview. "It definitely follows themes of true crime, something that's currently very popular in the podcast space.

"It was fun to go into that world and add mystery and twists and turns and a whodunnit type thing."

Sugg went on to share how he always envisioned extending his previous Username comics.

"I worked on those graphic novels quite a few years ago now and even when I finished that trilogy, what I love about it is the opportunity to delve back into that world," he told us. "To be able to go back and revisit that is really cool.

"A lot of the people that read the books back in the day, they have all now grown older. So with this particular podcast, it does feel like it’s aged up slightly from the books and it’s a little bit darker, dare I say.

"It covers dark themes and it really does, listening back through it, it has its cliffhanger moments and we do revisit places and characters we recognise from the books. I feel like it's a bit of nostalgia as well as being something new for them to enjoy."

While the audio podcast is based within the existing Username universe, Sugg stressed that people do not need to have read his books to enjoy it.

"I think it’s a great story regardless. It’s been written in a way where you don’t need to know the characters that well," he told Digital Spy. "But, of course, I encourage people to go out and read the books and then listen to the podcast."

Username Resurgent is available to download on Audible now.
