Whaite was meant to perform in today's (February 6) tour performance of the dance show with his dance partner Johannes Radebe but couldn't participate because of a positive lateral flow test this morning.

Whaite posted a video to his Instagram story earlier today explaining the situation: "I've got a little bit of bad news I'm afraid. A lateral flow this morning has come back positive so I now have to sit here in this glamorous captivity until a result of a PCR comes back."

He continued: "I'm hoping it comes back negative because I feel fine. I'm triple jabbed, I had coronavirus in the summer so, I'm hoping it's just a false positive.

"But that does mean that I won't be able to perform today or tonight in Glasgow so I am very, very, very, very sorry if anyone was hoping to see me shake my thing on the dancefloor today because I just won't be there asking it, I'll be in my hotel room – probably still shaking it," Whaite joked.

He added that he hopes fans will enjoy the show regardless of his absence and wished his fellow performers luck, as well as apologised for "letting you all down."

The live Strictly tour began last month with performances from stars of its latest series, including Whaite and Radebe, who made history as the first same-sex male pairing to take part in the show and reach the finals.

They ended up in second place, with EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis and her partner Giovanni Pernice winning the coveted Glitterball trophy.

Whaite previously said he was pleasantly surprised by "the love" they received from fans over their appearance on the show, having originally expected "insurmountable" backlash when he was paired with Radebe.
