Love Island's Megan Barton Hanson has said she feels like her "whole world is crumbling" following her split from Wes Nelson.

The reality star shared a lengthy, emotional post on her Instagram Stories on Monday (January 28), after sharing snapshots of messages of support from fans, where she opened up about how the days since her and Wes' break-up have been.

"Hands down been one of the worst days of my life," Megan wrote. "I can’t thank you all enough for the support.

"It makes it all worthwhile, (the endless trolling, negative stories, dealing with publicly breaking up, being papped having to force a smile when my whole world is crumbling).

"Feels like I can't put a foot right BUT knowing I can help motivate/inspire people even a TINY bit makes me want to continue on in the public eye," she added.

"I’m determined to make 2019 a positive happy year."

Megan and Wes announced their split last week, amid drama surrounding comments Megan had made about Wes' Dancing on Ice partner Vanessa Bauer.

"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," the couple said in a statement over the weekend.

"We have been working hard for well under a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much, we will remain separate."

It wasn't all heartbreak between the pair though, as Megan later made good on her promise to support Wes through his Dancing on Ice stint by appearing in the audience on Sunday night's live show.

While the performance saw Wes make a mistake at the start of his routine, his professional skating partner Vanessa later defended the reality star, saying that he'd "smashed it" every time during rehearsals.

"We didn’t show our best today but [Wes] smashed it every single time at rehearsals," Vanessa wrote. "I’m so proud of him and can’t wait for another week of skating and hard training."

Dancing on Ice continues this Sunday (February 3) on ITV.
