It's been TV's worst-kept secret for a while, but Fox has now confirmed - officially, absolutely, positively - that Prison Break is coming back.
Original stars Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield) and Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows) are so far the only cast confirmed for what's being billed as the "ultimate escapist event series".
Further original cast are expected to sign on - though given that Sarah Wayne Callies (Sara Tancredi) recently told Digital Spy that lining up everyone's schedules is proving troublesome, it's perhaps no surprise that Fox is holding off on confirming the full line-up.
What is good news is that the original creative team are back behind the camera - with series creator Paul T Scheuring returning as showrunner.
""Paul Scheuring and Wentworth Miller came in earlier this year to pitch us a story that we loved," said Fox co-CEO Dana Walden. "After we read the first script, it became very clear that Paul has a lot more stories to tell about these wonderful characters."
Prison Break originally centred on genius Michael Scofield's attempts to break his estranged brother out of prison, after Burrows was framed for a crime he didn't commit.

That initial act set the brothers off on a complicated - some would argue convoluted - path that involved government conspiracies, a second prison stint in Panama and their mother returning from the grave.
The original series climaxed with Michael's own apparent death, so it'll be interesting to see how the "ultimate escapist" will get out of that particular fix...
