Jenna Coleman is only a few months removed from her heartbreaking Doctor Who departure - but is a return trip in the TARDIS already in the works?

Fans will remember that, in series nine finale 'Hell Bent', Clara Oswald erased herself from The Doctor's memory so he would no longer be burdened by her fate.

Coleman reunited with her Time Lord Peter Capaldi at Awesome Con in Washington DC - where Capaldi seemed to let slip that Clara's mind-wipe of The Doctor in 'Hell Bent' might not have been entirely successful.

"I'm not sure how successfully Clara was able to wipe his mind," Capaldi told fans (via Radio Times), then teasing: "I just… I was about to tell you something I can't tell you."

He then revealed: "I just shot something that Clara was still there in!"

Digital Spy has reached out to the BBC for clarification on if Jenna Coleman is returning to Doctor Who.

A Coleman comeback is certainly far from guaranteed for Doctor Who fans.

Capaldi might have been referring to shooting something other than a proper Doctor Who episode, since filming on series 10 apparently will start in two weeks' time.

These new episodes will introduce The Doctor's latest time-travelling companion Bill, played by newcomer Pearl Mackie.

Doctor Who is off screen this year until its Christmas special - which will lead into showrunner Steven Moffat's final series in 2017.
