Here's a first-look clip at The Musketeers series 3 ahead of it returning to screens this Saturday (May 28) for its final series.

What to Read Next

The clip sees an emotional reunion for D'Artagnan (Luke Pasqualino), Athos (Tom Burke) and Porthos (Howard Charles) with Aramis (Santiago Cabrera).

In the first episode of series three, the Musketeers' search for missing gunpowder leads them to Aramis's monastery, where they work together to save the monastery's children and brothers.

Earlier this week, co-showrunner Simon Allen teased that the final series of The Musketeers will see things get seriously dark.

"We go to places that I think shows very rarely get to go to - because we knew it was the end. The heroes do lose in this series - and because they lose, the jeopardy's higher and you care more," Allen explained.

Digital Spy exclusively revealed back in April that the swashbuckling show was going to draw to a close with its third series.

The final series of The Musketeers will pit our heroes against a new roster of villains - including the corrupt Governor of Paris, played by Rupert Everett.

Milady de Winter (Maimie McCoy) is set to return in several episodes towards the end of the series.

The Musketeers will return on Saturday, May 28 at 9.30pm on BBC One.
