Cult anthology series Inside No. 9 is celebrating its 25th episode with a live Halloween special in a matter of days, but it may be a little different to what we're used to.

Speaking ahead of special episode 'Dead Line', Inside No. 9's creators Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith have revealed that their series spooktacular will be "contemporary".

The episode, which will of course be set in No. 9, will follow Arthur Flitwick (Pemberton) after he finds an old mobile phone in his local graveyard, as one does.

Arthur soon makes the mistake of trying to contact the owner before soon realising that some mysteries are best left unsolved. Rather ominously, Arthur will then be "plunged into a nightmare of his own making, where no good deed can go unpunished".

"[Arthur's] coming home one night and finds an old telephone in a graveyard. He brings it home and tries to find out who owns it and that's what kicks off the story," Pemberton explained.

"Obviously with it being a Halloween episode, it is quite a spooky story and we wanted to draw on the lovely Halloween special creepiness of EC Comics and Tales From the Crypt."

Hinting that the show's Halloween special will be more unsettling than usual, Shearsmith added that 'Dead Line' will "not" be "a comedy romp".

"With it being a Halloween-themed episode, it's meant to be a bit more horror-like and hopefully that's what we will deliver on," he said.

Inside No. 9's live episode, which will feature guest star Coronation Street's Stephanie Cole, will be directed by Barbara Wiltshire.

Inside No. 9 will return for its live Halloween special on October 28 at 10pm on BBC Two.
