Death in Paradise's Ralf Little was among the stars who made a guest appearance in the last-ever episode of Inside No. 9.

The actor previously appeared in a 2020 episode, and made his return last night as viewers said goodbye to the bizarre creation from the minds of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.

Packed full of references to the season, the goodbye episode titled 'Plodding On' was partially set in a toilet cubicle, a callback to the first ever Inside No. 9 episode 'Sardines', which took place inside a wardrobe.

League of Gentlemen star Mark Gatiss attended the leaving party in the episode, alongside Nick Mohammed, Rosie Cavaliero, Sian Gibson, Jason Watkins, and Emily Howlett.

Other stars in the cast included Alison Steadman, Jessica Gunning, Adrian Dunbar, Zoë Wanamaker, Tasmin Greig, David Morrissey and Tamzin Outhwaite.

Outhwaite took to social media after the credits rolled to praise the show and its creators, writing: "Thank you to the @InsideNo9_ crew for inviting me back for the last ever scene. A room full of these legends actually made my year, and this was only January.

"Congratulations to all involved… What an incredible creation #InsideNo9."

The cult series launched back in 2014, with episodes of the comedy linked only by the number nine.

In a statement announcing the final season, Pemberton said: "We feel it is a good time to pause Inside No. 9 after we finish filming season 9 next year. We’re not saying it’s over for good... but we won’t be looking to make any more episodes for the time being."

Speaking when filming for the ninth season concluded, Shearsmith wrote "What a journey the last ten years have been. But today we arrived at the final stop. So long. Farewell. And thanks for all your kind support and love for the show over the years. We’ll miss it."

Inside No. 9 airs on BBC Two.
