So for anyone who heavy breathes at the thought of Thomas Shelby in that infamous flat cap, looking at you the wrong way, good news! Peaky Blinders: The Musical could be in the works.

Yep, by order of the Peaky Blinders (or the show's creator Steven Knight), the hit BBC crime drama could be coming to the West End.

According to Deadline, Knight is mulling over a musical extension of the show, saying he's been approached by a "very, very respectable" party interested in helping bring the story of the Brummie gang to the stage.

Speaking to the publication, Knight declared that "music has always been a factor" in Peaky Blinders and there are certain elements of the series that lend themselves to "a Les Mis sort of thing", including the "beautiful '20s clothes".

Executive producer of Peaky Blinders Jamie Glazebrook continued: "[A musical] is a fantastic idea because it kind of enhances the whole world in a way that's quite unexpected — but also totally appropriate because music is so close to it and there's quite an operatic approach to the way they make it.

Speaking about the possibility of a stage adaptation, Cillian Murphy added: "That's another iteration that does not involve me.

"But it's a mad enough idea that I'm sure it could be amazing.

"That's what's so brilliant about Steve is that he's constantly coming up with these ideas.

"He's so much more than a writer. He's just an all around entrepreneur, or polymath. He's just an extraordinary individual."

In case you've been living under a rock, Peaky Blinders focuses on a ruthless gang run by Murphy's Thomas Shelby in post-World War I Birmingham, who sewed razor blades into their flat caps (hence the name).

And Peaky Blinders are BACK filming for series four, with Tom Hardy among the stars making a dramatic comeback as gangster Alfie Solomons.

Expect some high-profile new additions for the fourth instalment, too. Adrien Brody – yes, actual Oscar winner Adrien Brody – will join the show in a part written especially for him, with Aiden Gillen (Littlefinger from Game of Thrones) also on board.

A premiere date has yet to be confirmed for series four, but we're probably going to have to wait until late 2017. You can rewatch or catch up on series one and two on Netflix now.
