Remember when Robert Downey Jr bought the film rights to one of Black Mirror's all-time great episodes?

Back in 2013, it looked like Tony Stark's alter-ego was all ready to produce (and star in?) a movie version of 'An Entire History of You'.

The original 2011 TV episode starred Toby Kebbell as a man living in a world where an implant records everything we do, see and hear - allowing us, and our loved ones, to 'relive' our memories.

The script, written by Peep Show co-creator Jesse Armstrong, caught the attention of Downey Jr, who was interested in reimagining the story for Hollywood.

Speaking at London Film Festival, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker gave an update on the project: though he's unsure if it's still in development, he revealed that any film version would be very different to the TV original.

"Originally, Jesse's idea using that technology was much more of a conspiracy thriller type thing," he revealed. "It was something he wanted to do as a movie.

"So he said at the start, 'I still want to develop this idea as a movie', and we were like, 'We can't do that [story] - that's too complicated anyway, but can we do a domestic story using the same kind of idea?'"

So expect the story of Liam Foxwell's life falling apart around him to be punctuated by the odd car chase and kung-fu fight, if 'An Entire History of You' does ever reach the big-screen.

In the meantime, Black Mirror will return for six new episodes - this time on Netflix - on October 21.

The third series has an all-star cast on board, with everyone from James Norton to Bryce Dallas Howard to Jerome Flynn signing up to scare us senseless.
