The comedian and actor will probe notorious cases for his Crime + Investigation  series Robbie Coltrane's Critical Evidence.

In each of its eight episodes, Robbie will walk viewers through how tough cases are cracked (sorry, we had to!) with extensive evidence investigation.

The job runs in the family blood for Robbie, whose father worked in law enforcement when he was a boy.

"Forensic science is advancing all the time, cold cases can heat up and the tiniest piece of evidence can prove critical," he said of Critical Evidence.

"My father was a police surgeon and I've always been fascinated by crime, forensics and the art of the detective. This series gets to the heart of that and I'm thrilled to be working on it."

Executive producer Ross Harper also hyped the docu-series: "Most murder victims knew their killers, but the hardest cases to solve are those without an obvious lead.

"These are the crimes that can only be solved by gathering and evaluating evidence and putting the jigsaw pieces together to connect the evidence with a suspect. These stories reveal the astonishing dedication of investigators determined to follow the trail until they catch the killer.

"With Robbie's uniquely compelling style, we're delighted to be applying the latest techniques to create a polished and contemporary series for CI that will make gripping viewing."

Robbie Coltrane's Critical Evidence is set to debut on Crime + Investigation channels across Europe later this year - with A+E Networks distributing the series in other markets.
