Ahead of its annual Christmas special, Death in Paradise star Don Warrington has teased that fans are "right to worry" about the future of his character Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, following the events of season 14.

As a reminder, Selwyn was laid off from his job to be replaced with a young whippersnapper, but later his superiors realised he was by far the best man for the job and offered him his role again.

However, he didn't accept, and retired from a life of police work.

But is he really done, or will he find himself unable to resist the call?

Speaking to Radio Times, Warrington really leant into the ambiguity.

"[Selwyn] made a decision, and who knows. Is he going to change his mind? Is he not?" the actor said. "Is something going to happen to help him one way or the other? I've no idea."

Warrington also responded to recent comments made by fellow cast member Tobi Bakare, who plays JP Hooper. Bakare said the show can "definitely survive" without Selwyn, and Warrington (seemingly jokingly) said: "Well, I don't think so".

Whatever happens with Selwyn, we do know that the 2025 Christmas special will focus on four co-workers who wake up the day after their Christmas party to discover a corpse in the swimming pool.

The special will include Doctor Who star Pearl Mackie, Ted Lasso star Billy Harris, Shaun of the Dead's Kate Ashfield, Waterloo Road's James Baxter, as well as Josie Lawrence, Oriana Charles and Alix Serman.

Beyond Paradise is also airing a Christmas special this year, and looking beyond (no pun intended) this month, a 15th Death in Paradise season has been filmed.

A premiere date for the new season hasn't been confirmed yet, and may not until the Christmas special has aired, but the show has historically premiered a new season in January or very early February.

The Paradise franchise airs on BBC One and streams on iPlayer.
