Actor and presenter Alan Cumming has been confirmed as the host of the next BAFTA TV Awards in May.

Known for his roles in Spy Kids, X-Men 2, The Good Wife and Instinct, Cumming has more recently been on screens as the host of The Traitors US.

The announcement promised Cumming would bring "mischief and fun" to the ceremony, which takes place on Sunday, May 11. He takes over from 2023 and 2024 presenters Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett.

BAFTA's Executive Director of Awards & Content, Emma Behr, said: "We're delighted that Alan Cumming will be hosting this year's BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises. He will definitely bring a playful sense of mischief and fun to the ceremony, so audiences should expect the unexpected at Britain’s biggest celebration of TV on Sunday, May 11."

"The sheer quality, innovation, and breadth of talent in British television in front of and behind the camera is second to none," Behr continued, "and we look forward to honouring and celebrating these talented people at our upcoming awards ceremonies."

The nominations for the ceremony (as well as the BAFTA TV Craft Awards, which is happening on April 27) will be announced in just a few days, on Thursday, March 27.

The nominees for the Memorable Moment Award, which is voted for by the public, have already been announced.

This year's nominees include scenes from Bridgerton, Gavin & Stacey, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Rivals, Strictly Come Dancing and The Traitors UK.

Fans can vote for their favourite TV moment of the year, with tickets to the red carpet up for grabs.

The BAFTA TV Awards will air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer now on Sunday, May 11.
