Beyond Paradise star David Llewellyn has teased a new romance for his character PC Kelby Hartford.
The BBC show, a spin-off to Death in Paradise, is due to return to screens later this month (March 22) for its second series, with the various characters now in different headspaces.
Ahead of the premiere, Llewellyn, Felicity Montagu and Zahra Ahmadi spoke exclusively with Digital Spy about their respective characters, with Llewellyn teasing that there could be love in the air for Kelby as he grows closer to Chief Superintendent Charlie Woods (Jade Harrison).

“I think that we’ve all got our characters arcs in this series,” he began. “You see our characters just a bit deeper - you see a vulnerability to each of them. but also their brave and overcoming side.
“He’s definitely a fumbling, blushing, little puppy around her. But when he’s away from her, he’s focused. He’s in the zone, he wants to do well. He’s brave. He gets the bad guy. He’s a loyal, lovely guy.”

While there could be a new love interest in the station, Kelby’s friendship with Montagu’s Margo Martins will still be at the forefront, with Montagu confirming that their relationship will be developed further.

“There are developments. You see it a little bit more with [them], that they have this sort of simpatico relationship, but they can also squabble quite a bit,” she said, with Llewellyn adding: “[They’re] a bit more vulnerable - [they have] have their non-comedic moments where they’re being real to each other.”
Montagu also confirmed that Margo’s backstory will be explored, teasing: “[We] delve a little bit deeper into her personal life in one episode. That was thrilling for me to do.
"You do get a few glimpses in this series of a deepening of Margo, which [creator] Tony [Jordan] always said he wanted to do if he could fit it in.”
Beyond Paradise will return on BBC One on March 22.
