Top Boy star Jasmine Jobson has opened up about her "weird" new role in the upcoming ITV drama Platform 7.

The supernatural thriller series, which is adapted from the award-winning novel of the same name by Louise Doughty, sees Jobson take on the character of Lisa - a woman who is stuck on platform 7 of a train station following her death.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the new series, Jobson, who is best known for her portrayal of Jaq Lawrence in Netflix's Top Boy, explained what appealed to her about the role.

"It had to be the supernatural bit," said Jobson. "It's something about being a spirit and being able to be around people without their knowledge. There's something about haunting, I love it.

"That was the main hook for me, it was the haunting side of things but when it came down to the script; I haven't played anybody like Lisa before.

"So for me it was very much about trying something new. Having experiences that I'm yet to experience or just different understandings in life. I'm all about taking on characters that are real and that I think have really, really important storylines that need to be told."

As the story progresses, Jobson's character works to solve the mystery of her own death. Describing what it was like to play a spirit, she said: "There was definitely something very weird about being a fly on the wall. You don't exist.

"It definitely felt weird being involved in the scene and not really feeling involved but at the same time there's so much involvement that I've got there and then also I had to get used to not having anything to say. I'm not used to not having anything to say, I love the sound of my own voice so not having anything to say was a bit of a shock but it was definitely a lot of fun."

Platform 7 will air on ITVX from December 7.
