Top Boy's Shaun Dingwall and Doc Martin star Jeff Rawle are joining the cast of Grantchester for its upcoming eighth season.

The pair will feature as guests actors along with Jemima Rooper (The Girlfriend Experience), though their roles in the ITV show remain unknown for the time being.

Season eight of the fan-favourite crime drama will, of course, see the return of Robson Green's DI Geordie Keating and Tom Brittney as Reverend Will Davenport.

Charlotte Ritchie (Bonnie) Tessa Peake-Jones (Mrs C), Al Weaver (Leonard Finch), Kacey Ainsworth (Cathy Keating), Oliver Dimsdale (Daniel Marlowe) and Nick Brimble (Jack Chapman) will also reprise their roles.

In new the season, Will is living in bliss until his world is turned upside down by a terrible accident. Though he has always turned to God in his darkest hours, despair will send him on a dangerous downward spiral.

Speaking of his return to the series, Green shared: "It’s so good to be back on Grantchester. A series that just gets better with age. Everyone involved is at the top of their game and this incredibly charming, likeable, dark and edgy show is an absolute privilege to be part of."

Brittney added: "I’m absolutely chuffed that we’re going ahead with another series of Grantchester and that I get to continue playing a character I adore so much. To be part of a show as well loved as this one, that is now in its eighth series, is an absolute honour."

Grantchester airs on ITV in the UK and MASTERPIECE PBS in the US.
