Gentleman Jack star Suranne Jones has posted a tribute to the show following its abrupt cancellation after two seasons.
Premiering in 2019, the BBC One and HBO series created by Sally Wainwright zoomed in on the life of Yorkshire landowner and queer icon Anne Lister, which was thoroughly documented in her diaries.
Jones plays the fourth wall-breaching protagonist opposite Peaky Blinders star Sophie Rundle, who portrays Anne's love interest Ann Walker.

"I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on our beautiful journey making this show," Jones shared on Instagram, alongside a video blooper reel from season two.
"While it is sad news Gentleman Jack will not be renewed, this show has brought so many together, enabled people to share their stories, brought joy, emotion and creativity and gave me a real connection to you as its audience."
The Vigil star went on to outline the impact that the series has had in keeping Anne Lister's memory alive, detailing the statues and plaques that have been put up and noting that Anne's home Shibden Hall "now has more visitors than ever before" too.
"I have never been involved in a show that has made such a huge impact and touched my heart like this one has," Jones continued. "It wasn't always the easiest job I've had… but it was always worth it to see the response it got."

"THANK YOU for all your support. Thank you to Sally Wainwright for bringing us this amazing story and passion," Jones added, before going on to praise the costume, make-up and design team, as well as the entire cast and crew too.
"Finally I love you @sophiesophierundle," she concluded. "You are a true friend and a total star."
On her part, Rundle shared some new behind-the-scenes images on her Instagram following the cancellation news and wrote: "What a privilege it has been to play Ann Walker and bring her and Anne Lister's extraordinary love story back to life.
"I am so proud to have been a part of reclaiming their place in history. And I will be forever grateful to have been allowed to spend time in the eye wateringly talented orbits of Sally and Suranne, and the incredible team of people who brought this story to your screens."
Gentleman Jack airs on BBC One in the UK, and US viewers can tune in via HBO Max.
