Death in Paradise confirms Christmas special for 2022

Death in Paradise has confirmed that they will be returning for a Christmas special later this year ahead of the show's series 11 finale, following the success of their first ever Christmas special in 2021.

The detective series is filmed on the French Carribbean island of Guadeloupe, but set on the fictional island of Saint Marie, and is set to give fans an interesting whodunnit filled with plot twists for the 2022 festive season.

Executive Producer Tim Key said of the announcement: "We were overwhelmed with the fantastic response to our first Christmas special and delighted that we've been asked to take the viewers back to Saint Marie this Christmas.

"We can promise something very different this year, but still with all the Death in Paradise fun, sparkle and intrigue that the viewers will expect."

Death in Paradise will begin production on the Christmas special as well as their next series in Spring.

All cast members are expected to return for both, including Ralf Little, Don Warrington, Elizabeth Bourgine, Tahj Miles, Shantol Jackson and Ginny Holder.

They are keeping quiet about any guest cast members joining the special or series 12 until later this year, but we do know it will be written by James Hall and produced by Candida Julian-Jones.

An exact release date for the special has not yet been announced but as it is a Christmas episode, it is likely to air close to the main festive days – in 2021, this was on Boxing Day.

Josephine Jobert, who plays DS Florence Cassell, has already announced she won't be returning to the show after leaving again in series 11 so it is likely she will not appear in the special either.

Jobert wrote on Twitter: "When I left at the end of series eight I thought it would be for good. And then I was asked if I would like to come back and I said yes but I knew deep down that it wouldn't be forever."

Death in Paradise airs on Fridays at 9pm on BBC One.
