John Barrowman thinks two Torchwood deaths happened "too soon"

Torchwood fans still have a lot to say about the Doctor Who spin-off nine years after it was last on our screens.

And it turns out that the cast do too, as John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Burn Gorman (Dr. Owen Harper) and Naoko Mori (Toshiko Sato) recently took part in a live Q&A with Radio Times in which they revealed their true feelings about some of the twists the sci-fi drama took.

One aspect of the show which upset many a fan was the tendency of main characters to die before their time, and the stars revealed that they too felt the tragic deaths of Owen and Tosh in season two finale 'Exit Wounds' happened too early.

"Personally, I thought it happened too soon," Barrowman said. "It would have been great to do another one."

Gorman added that he was "totally gutted" when his character was killed off, admitting: "It felt like we were just getting started, to be honest. I suppose we always knew. It was pretty common knowledge that people had to die in Torchwood.

"We did this whole thing together and I felt like it was never going to end. But of course, it does. It's television. It comes to an end and you move on."

And his co-star Mori was just as upset at the decision to kill Tosh, although she added that she felt it was effective when it came to shocking fans.

"It's good because it catches people by surprise," she explained. "And it certainly caught us by surprise."

One question that remained on some fans' lips after Owen and Tosh died was whether they would ever have got together as a couple — after all, Tosh had been harbouring romantic feelings for her colleague pretty much since the day they met.

But the actors who played them reckon they wouldn't have had a happy ever after together even if they had survived working for Torchwood.

"We might have gone on two or three dates, but it would have stayed on the surface," Gorman said. "They're not very good communicators, both of them."

Mori agreed, adding: "I don’t know whether it would have ended well. They're both a little bit damaged."

Barrowman recently revealed his idea for a Torchwood reunion episode, saying that he'd like to combine a brand new team with the original Cardiff crew.
