Netflix's Dark, Germany's answer to Stranger Things, proved to be an unexpected hit for the streaming service when it arrived in 2017, so fans were naturally delighted when the series was commissioned for a second season.

Now, Netflix has confirmed that the second chapter will arrive on June 21, giving us a glimpse of what's to come in a tense new trailer.

Dark's first season followed four families in the fictional German town Winden, as they investigated the disappearance of several children and a mystery that tied back to the same town in 1986, as well as a local nuclear power plant.

The finale of season one left us with more questions than answers, especially after that shocking ending which we discuss in more depth here.

Big questions we hope to be resolved include why exactly Michael killed himself – and why he's always drenched in icky black goo when Jonas sees him. Plus, what exactly is Father Noah up to (aside from all that kidnap and murderising, of course)?

Dark season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix on June 21.
