13 Reasons Why has got two brand new cast members as the teen drama gears up for its upcoming second season on Netflix.

The wildly popular, and controversial, series is welcoming Supergirl and Fear the Walking Dead's Brenda Strong and Criminal Minds' Meredith Monroe to its team.

And they'll also be joined by Jake Weber (Medium) and RJ Brown (The Carrie Diaries; Girls).

According to Deadline, Strong will play Bryce's (Justin Prentice) mum, while Meredith will be taking on the role of Alex's (Miles Heizer) "hardworking and devoted" mum.

Most of the cast of the original series are expected to return – including Katherine Langford as Hannah Baker – but the show is expected to welcome a host of new characters too.

But don't expect 13 Reasons Why to have changed much when it returns to Netflix next year, as the show's stars have insisted that season two won't be affected by the first season's backlash.

Dylan Minnette, who plays Clay Jensen, recently admitted: "I think every single word from everyone across the world has been heard by everyone involved with the show.
