Nintendo has turned classic Mario side-scrolling gameplay on its head with Super Mario Bros Wonder, a brand new Mario 2D platformer out now on Nintendo Switch after releasing on October 20.
The fun new entry in the Mario franchise is certified as must-play based on Metacritic reviews, with the game introducing Wonder Flowers, game-changing items that create spectacular and unpredictable moments, like pipes coming alive and the ability to turn into a giant spiky ball.
Mario can also turn into Elephant Mario thanks to a new power-up, with Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi and Toad also playable, and you can also team up with friends or family with four-player local couch co-op.

Mario Wonder pre-order bonus items
A number of retailers are offering bonus items when buying the game, with Nintendo including a pin badge set, GAME including a pin badge set and exclusive poster, and retailers like Amazon, Hit, ShopTo and The Game Collection including a free sticker sheet.

Super Mario Bros Wonder is the first new 2D Mario game in more than 10 years, and it's not the only Mario game coming this year.
Super Mario RPG will be re-released with overhauled graphics on November 17, 2023, bringing a remake of the classic SNES game to the Nintendo Switch.
In 2024 we can expect a visually enhanced re-release of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon which originally released on the Nintendo 3DS, as well as the completely new Princess Peach Showtime game.
