Get your first look at the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game

Today (April 13) brought big news about the latest addition to the Star Wars video game universe in the form of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Respawn Entertainment head Vince Zampella and Game Director Stig Asmussen were among those who revealed new details about the game during a panel as part of the annual Star Wars Celebration in Chicago.

Zampella confirmed that it will be a "story game" that's "all about being a Jedi" and will introduce a new character by the name of Cal Kestis, who's voiced by Shameless US and Gotham actor Cameron Monaghan.

The team unveiled an official trailer during the panel, which they said they were "super proud to be showing to the world," made up of game play assets rather than gameplay.

The game will take players through a new and original Star Wars story that follows young Padawan Cal finding his way after escaping Order 66 in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, which identified all Jedi as traitors to the Galactic Republic. He now needs to stay one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.

The game will be available for PS4, Xbox One and PC and is a single-player story game without any multiplayer function or microtransactions.

"Many Star Wars fans, ourselves included, are really interested in the dark times, so we wanted to explore that mysterious, dangerous period,” Asmussen said.

"The team at Lucasfilm have been amazing collaborators, helping us explore and further develop this part of the timeline where the Empire is at the height of its power and any remaining Jedi are in hiding. Within this narrative, we’ve crafted a game with intense, yet thoughtful and fun melee combat using the lightsaber and Force powers, allowing anyone to fulfill their Jedi fantasy."

Steve Blank, Director of Franchise Content & Strategy at Lucasfilm Story Group, added: "Focusing on Cal stepping back into the shoes of a Jedi post Order 66 opens up a lot of gameplay opportunities and rich story threads to develop for this new character and his backstory."

The news comes at a pretty exciting time for Star Wars fans. This week brought our very first look at the new film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as well as unveiling the title.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19 and US cinemas on December 20. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is scheduled for release on November 15.
