Neighbours is officially reaching its end after 37 seasons entertaining audiences with the adventures and mishaps of Ramsay Street's residents.

The devastating news initially came last month when Channel 5 announced it would no longer be airing the soap on TV after this coming summer. With the show's cancellation now official today, the Neighbours cast have been taking to social media to react to the news using the hashtag #CelebratingNeighbours.

Soap veteran, Alan Fletcher, who has been playing Dr Karl Kennedy for 28 years, took to Instagram writing: "This is a sad day indeed. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the millions of fans all around the world who have supported our iconic drama for 37 wonderful years.

The actor went on to add he was "filled with gratitude" and implored fans to keep watching, calling the final episodes "an incredible celebration with returning characters and extraordinary story lines".

Takaya Honda chose to do a short, heartfelt dedication to his fans:"We will be #CelebratingNeighbours not for us, but for you. It's always been for you."

Freya Van Dyke, who plays Zara Selwyn also took to Instagram to thank fans for the "outpouring of support", calling them the "best fans".

She said: "I do want to briefly say thank you so much all of you for all your support, particularly over the past couple of weeks. It really has blown us all away… it's just really, really lovely.

"I also want to say I'm really sorry we couldn't do more, we couldn't save the show. We really tried the past few months and it's really sad. Because I know a lot of people think it's like a silly soap but I’m seeing how much it means to so many of you.

"The people that are saying it's actually saved their lives or it's a huge part of supporting their mental health… I get people all the time saying that Chloe's LGBT storylines have helped them come out to their parents. I just see how much it means to so many of you and it makes me so sad that it's going away because I'm really sad for you guys. So I'm sorry and thank you again."
