Toadie is determined to talk to Ian and find out if 'Karen' – the Andrea lookalike he met in 2009 – is connected to Dee. Andrea insists on coming with him to Hepburn Springs and when they meet Ian, Toadie is struck by how genuinely thrown he seems. Ian recounts meeting the two identical women: first 'Karen,' then Andrea. Anxious Toadie finally allows himself to be convinced that this woman must have been his lost love Dee. There are still so many unanswered questions—but could this mean she really is still alive?
Toadie is desperate to know more, but he's thwarted when Ian claims he lost touch with Karen. A few years after he met her in 2009, she fell in love with a man and moved to South Africa with him. She no longer answers any of the contact details Ian has for her.
As they head home, Andrea comforts Toadie, sympathetic to the emotional turmoil this has put him through. Wrestling with all the new unanswered questions, Toadie reveals to his family that he doesn't know whether or not to pursue this further. If Karen really is Dee, then for some reason, she chose never to contact Toadie and has instead started a new life overseas.
Toadie resolves to take his time, deciding whether to continue pursuing Dee. However, the plot thickens when Ian visits Andrea in her apartment and she thanks him for sticking to her version of the story. She asks him to give her a mysterious photo… and then offers herself to him as a reward.
Meanwhile, Amy is concerned that Gary and Kyle might not work out as partners. Her fears seem to be confirmed as, from the very start, Kyle and Gary's unspoken competitiveness drives them to clash. Sheila assures a concerned Amy that these are only teething problems and the men will work it out, but Amy's not sure.
When Amy isn't around, Leo witnesses the father-son duo managing to put aside their competitive streaks and work well together. But as soon as Amy's back on the scene they revert to their squabbling. Will these two be able to make their new arrangement work, or is their tension over Amy a ticking time-bomb?
