Levi tries to hide Abigail's condition from Mackenzie, but the cracks are starting to show. When Kirby walks by and asks about it, Levi can't keep the cat in the bag any longer.

Naturally, Mackenzie is furious with him for lying – and what's worse, she feels so stupid for praising him for being hard at work helping his patients around the clock.

Meanwhile, still gutted about losing the art competition, Mali pretends everything is okay in front of Kirby and that he hasn't received the results yet. As if to rub it in, Mali receives a package in the mail: it's his painting, along with a certificate of commendation.

With no reason left to hide, Mali slinks to Kirby with his tail between his legs and tells her he didn't win. Kirby, however, is ecstatic at the news she thinks it's fantastic that he got commended. Stunned by his friend's persistent optimism, Mali looks at the outcome in a new light.

Elsewhere, Perri tells Harper about the looming court case, and the fact that he's testifying against his own dad. This gives Harper the necessary context for why Tane has been so distracted despite making promises to be there for her, and she softens. Harper promises Tane that she'll try to give him the benefit of the doubt, as long as he tries to communicate better.

Also today, Cash lumbers around Salt, trying to fulfil his duty as new co-owner of the restaurant, but it's driving Mackenzie insane. He tries to serve customers a couple of drinks, telling Mackenzie not to lecture him and that he knows what he's doing. Off the back of her still being angry at Levi, Mackenzie loses it. She tells Cash that she doesn't want him there and storms off.

To her credit, however, she apologises to Cash quickly and explains why she reacted the way she did. She tells him they can make this work, on the condition that he backs off a little and lets her handle the business. However, Cash won't back down – this was his sister's restaurant and he will not be pushed away from this.
