Since learning of the bikie hit on him, Cash is paranoid, suspecting an attack at any moment. When Cash intends to return to police work, Felicity is sceptical.

Heeding Xander's call for help, Cash shows up at his apartment, finding a cagey Rose reluctant to talk. Eager to get Cash's backing for the award, Xander invites Cash and Rose to lunch – his shout.

Clocking the fraught looks between the siblings, Cash asks what's going on. When Xander explains that Rose has been recommended for an award, Cash congratulates Rose on her success, only to be shut down when Rose admits she's refusing it.

Meanwhile, a supportive Roo encourages Heather to send off her law school application, as it's ready. Heather thanks Roo for all her help. As the two women discuss Heather's bright future in family law, Marilyn overhears Heather complaining about adoption. A frustrated Marilyn can't hold back a judgemental dig.

Covering for Marilyn, Roo explains to Heather that Marilyn has an adopted son, Jett, so Heather may have hit a sore spot. Heather's face hardens upon learning that Marilyn has an adopted son.

Sensing Marilyn's distress after the adoption argument, Leah follows Marilyn out. At breaking point, Marilyn can't hold the truth back any longer, confessing to Leah that she suspects Heather is her estranged daughter from an extramarital affair in her youth.

Marilyn admits she was pressured – the father and his wife said they could give the child a better life than Marilyn could. Leah encourages Marilyn to speak with Heather, but Marilyn is held back by shame. Desperate to keep a lid on her secret, Marilyn makes Leah promise not to tell a soul.

Elsewhere, an apprehensive Nikau and Tane prepare to meet their lawyer. Discussing their upcoming court date, the men are wary that the bikies could send scouts to snoop on their sentencing. Privately, Nikau asides to Tane that he's worried about Cash staying at the house. What if the bikies find out? The lawyer delivers some solace – their sentencing will be in a closed court.
