Fresh from their investor meetings in the city, Mackenzie and Felicity are exhausted. They've had no interest yet, but the night is young. Mackenzie is disheartened, but Felicity is flooded with ideas to revive the business, none of which catch Mac's fancy. Desperate to help, Dean and Ziggy brainstorm ideas, but Mac cautions them to stay out of it.
When Mac gets thrown a lifeline by an investor, everyone is elated except Mac. Dean is confused, as this is an easy way out of her debt troubles. Mac explains that no amount of money comes without terms and conditions. This investor will want to put their personal spin on her restaurant, which she's not comfortable with. Dean, Ziggy and Felicity are at a loss as to how to support Mac.
Finding a quiet moment, Mackenzie admits to Felicity that she struggles to trust anyone after PK. It's a struggle to relinquish control of her business to someone else. Felicity retorts that the two of them found a way to work together, as insubordinate as they both are. Mac laughingly agrees. Is she ready to share her business with someone?
Deciding she's not the sharing type, Mac announces that she's going to sell Salt. Seeing Mac drink away her sorrows, Felicity is struck by an idea, and mysteriously rushes out to meet Cash. What is Felicity planning?
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Nikau is prepared for surgical removal of the urchin spine. Naomi's warm support is unwavering and a relief to a pained Nikau. The surgeon is quick and precise, removing the spine from Nikau's foot. Displeased, Nikau is told to stay overnight for observation, but Naomi promises she'll keep him company.
After a night in hospital, Nikau and Naomi are finding their friendly rhythm, getting along like old friends. Nikau suggests that next time they drink something nicer than vending machine coffee, to which a laughing Naomi agrees. Picking up Nikau from the hospital, John notices the growing warmth between Nikau and Naomi.
Elsewhere, Marilyn is short with an apologetic Tex, who offers to walk her home from work. Stepping in, Irene advises Tex to pick up his work ethic if he wants to keep his job. Overhearing, John explains that Tex was late because he was assisting with the concussed surfer rescue. He was a hero.
Spotting Tex on the beach, Marilyn accuses him of shirking work, but Tex is quick to reply that he has already finished her list of jobs. On the back foot, Marilyn apologises for micromanaging and shouts a grateful Tex breakfast.
