Things are still tense between Rose and Cash, despite their agreement to a stalemate. Rose feels guilty for harbouring feelings towards Cash, but Xander assures her that she has done nothing wrong. Rose is hardly comforted, fretting about Jasmine's return to Summer Bay.
Irene delivers some good news – the apartment above the Diner is for lease, so Xander and Rose could take it. Cash's noticeable lack of enthusiasm gets Irene asking questions over the strange dynamic between him, Xander and Rose. Cash tries to clear the air with Rose, but Rose isn't interested in friendship.
A peacemaking Irene shows Xander through the vacant apartment and thinks it's perfect. Xander is eager to move out of the caravan park into something more comfortable, but Rose isn't sure she wants to stay in the Bay. A compassionate Xander urges Rose not to walk away from their fledgling relationship with Jasmine.
What to Read Next
Keen to keep up appearances, Cash calls Jasmine with the good news about the apartment. However, a torn Rose calls the sergeant asking for her Summer Bay transfer to be reversed. Unbeknown to them all, is Rose going to leave Summer Bay?
Meanwhile, the fallout from Theo's TAFE assignment ramps up between Justin and Theo. The assignment was such an improvement on his last that the tutor refuses to believe that Theo wrote it. If only they had evidence, but Theo deleted Justin's version of the assignment. Theo is struck with an idea – he may be able to retrieve the deleted file on his computer.
When he does, Theo is elated. Theo's TAFE tutor delivers some bittersweet news: the two assignment versions are clearly different, but it doesn't prove that Theo wrote one of them. Giving him a second chance, the tutor offers Theo to sit an in-person exam. This sends Theo into a panic – he can't perform under exam conditions.
Justin assures Theo that he's got this – he only needs a pass mark, not a distinction. Feeling deflated, Theo complains that he is now under suspicion by his TAFE tutors. Justin's apologies get him nowhere as Theo determines to work independently from now on. Justin is bruised by the rejection.
Elsewhere, something is not sitting right with Chloe, as she's still puzzled as to how Ari and Mia bought the gym outright without a loan or any known savings. Tane is evasive, telling Chloe to put it out of her mind. But Chloe is determined to excel at running the business side of the gym, fearing there may be some debt they are unaware of. Chloe tries calling her mum, but Mia is quick to find an excuse to get off the phone.
The money mystery continues, and when Chloe is caught asking around town, Tane intercepts her investigation. He says that if Chloe keeps digging, she may not like what she finds. But dig she does and quickly realises – Ari must have used the money he took in the armed robbery.
Tane explains that Mia and Ari were only trying to prove their financial security for the adoption by buying the gym. A remorseful Tane understands if Chloe wants out of the gym, but Chloe feels obligated to Mia and Ari, deciding to stay on as bookkeeper.
