Following the disastrous chat with Chloe, Justin is in damage control. Theo is worried that he has lost his girlfriend for good, while Leah is miffed that Justin threw her under the bus. Annoyed that Justin hasn't apologised yet, an aggrieved Leah arrives home late to find him playing video games with Theo. His offer of pizza and video games does little to quell her rage.

Leah explains that she's tired from covering Chloe's shift, as Chloe was too embarrassed to come in today, and she heads off to bed. Justin tries to calm her down by offering a shoulder rub, but this only further exasperates Leah's hurt. Fed up, she tells him to sleep on the couch.

John is surprised when Justin arrives at his door asking to stay the night, especially given that he already gave Justin explicit instructions to apologise to Leah. John is gracious and lets him in, but as Justin starts making himself comfortable and eating John's recently made dessert, John wonders how long he will have this new house guest. The next day, Leah arrives at John's place to talk to a nonplussed Justin.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Logan is deep in thought and pacing as he agonises over a decision. He stops suddenly, having made his choice. Picking up his phone, he calls the army to enquire about re-enlisting. Soon afterwards, Mac discovers that Dr Bolton – Logan's replacement – now oversees the ED. Confused and dejected, Mac heads to Salt, pours herself a drink and leaves a voice message for Logan wanting to know that he's alright.

The next morning, Mac plays Jasmine the voice message he left, telling her he couldn't stay any longer – he's going back to the army. Mackenzie isn't happy but respects his decision.

Elsewhere, Xander brings in a patient, Jackie, who's in considerable pain. However, the new head doctor doesn't think her condition is as bad as Xander and tells him to park her in the hallway. This causes the two men to come into conflict, resulting in the new doctor pulling rank. Xander gives her some reassurance before leaving.

Later, Xander is checking in on the patient when the Dr Bolton comes to assess her. When Jackie doesn't understand Dr Bolton's questions, Xander steps in to help her interpret. Feeling undermined, Dr Bolton tells Xander to leave. However, Jackie asks him to stay, causing more friction.

The next day, Xander arrives back at the hospital to discover Jackie in serious pain. Dr Bolton arrives and suspecting she's faking her symptoms for drugs, refuses to give her any more pain medication. Xander doesn't like what he sees and tells Jackie if she asks for a second opinion, they must give her one. Furious at Xander's lack of respect, Dr Bolton gets security to escort him out.
