Ari arrives back from his time in the city, but tensions between he and Tane still bubble below the surface. Mac hopes his return brings some light to her life again, but Mac's hesitation to be in touch with her feelings makes her wonder if she's going to lose her relationship altogether.
Ari wants an answer out of Mac, but she can't bring herself to tell him what he wants to hear just for the sake of it. Ari blames Tane for his failed relationship with Mac. In turn, Mac lashes out at Tane.
Meanwhile, Nikau tries to find solace in his mate Ryder. In haste Bella dumped him for not agreeing with her, leaving Nikau devastated. Ryder tries to comfort his friend, but Nikau can't divulge too much information about it, other than it being complicated. His uncles push for Nikau to talk to them, but he digs his heels in, not wanting to put Bella’s family in the thick of it.
Elsewhere, Roo is thrown by Owen's decision to leave the Bay. Alf confronts Owen about it and realises he has inadvertently hurt Roo in making this decision. Alf thinks he's crazy for not realising Roo would be heartbroken.
With his tail between his legs, Owen confesses he was only thinking of himself, asking Roo if she wants to join him on his next adventure to visit his brother's grave. Bidding their farewells, everyone is pleased to see the loved-up pair off – except the sight of Roo leaving with Owen weighs a little heavier on Ryder when he's reminded of his father.
