Ari and Nikau nearly come to blows, after Gemma informs them that her Diner shifts have dried up. Worried about Nikau's job security, Ari pressures him to quit his job and come to work at the construction site with him.
Upset with how he's being treated, Nikau goes to Tane's and asks if he can move in with him. At the same time, Gemma gets a job at Salt.
Meanwhile, after discovering that Ziggy has been fighting with both Dean and Maggie because of his marital issues, Ben tells Ziggy to forgive her mum. Ziggy speaks to Maggie, and although she hasn't forgiven her, Ziggy promises not to be angry at her. Knowing Ben told Ziggy to forgive her, Maggie gets Ben to agree to sit down and talk with her.
Elsewhere, when John discovers Gemma is looking for a new job, he confronts Marilyn and is concerned about what this might mean for her. Marilyn takes this the wrong way and angrily walks away from him.
