Ziggy and Dean haven't had much time for each other lately. When Dean starts his latest surf lesson, Ziggy observes an attractive and young backpacker, Jade, clearly flirting with her man – and she doesn't like this one bit. Ziggy hangs around for the afternoon to watch their interactions, and although Ryder tries his luck with Jade, Ziggy can see she only has eyes for Dean.
At the end of the lesson and after countless subtle attempts by Jade to move in on Dean, Ziggy tells her to back off. The harsh treatment towards one of Dean's students causes a heated argument between the pair, witnessed by Willow, and Dean is left confused about what Ziggy's problem is.
Later, Willow counsels Dean on Ziggy's outburst, showing him that it's more about her own history with cheating partners – namely Brody – than it is about Dean. Ziggy has been hurt in the past and it took a huge leap for her to be vulnerable again with Dean.
After gaining Willow's perspective, Dean crosses with Jade and she flirts again. Dean realises Ziggy's concerns weren't unfounded. He makes an effort to repair things with Ziggy, assuring her that Jade will no longer be a problem for them.
This is just as Jade is having a drink with Ryder. Ryder is keen on Jade, so offers to sort out a job for her at Salt so she can stick around the Bay longer. Now Dean and Ziggy's relationship is unknowingly in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, Willow chases Alex down and refuses to leave without an explanation for her outburst. Once they're outside and alone, Alex opens up to Willow about her past relationship. She has only had one long term romance – they were deeply in love and it only ended recently, hurting Alex a lot. This, coupled with the fact that this is Willow's first relationship with a woman, makes Alex hesitant and she needs to protect herself.
Alex asks Willow to think hard about whether she really wants a relationship with her, because if this is a passing phase or Willow is unsure at all, Alex can't open herself to that hurt again. Willow is left overwhelmed and feeling the weight of not wanting to hurt Alex. Which way will she jump?
Later, after speaking to Dean about Ziggy, Willow draws parallels with her own situation with Alex. This spurs Willow to go to Alex and make a grand declaration – she may not be able to promise not to hurt Alex, but wants to be with her anyway. She understands the leap of faith Alex has to take, but asks her to take that chance. As they both admit they care deeply for one another, Alex accepts to take that leap with Willow.
Elsewhere, Robbo has been keeping Jasmine at arm's length when it comes to caring for Grace. Once Jasmine pushes the point further, Robbo reveals his guilt over what happened to Tori – Grace is missing out on a mother figure and Robbo feels like he's failing her. Jasmine talks through her concerns with Irene – she's desperate to help Robbo. She wants to reassure him that he's not alone and wants him to let her in, allowing her to be a bigger part of Grace's life.
Irene then gives Robbo some tough love, in turn learning that he's only protecting Jasmine and doesn't want to force her to become a mother to Grace in Tori's absence. After a push from Irene, Robbo explains this to Jasmine, who reassures Robbo that he isn't forcing her – she wants to support him and his daughter more than anything.
With a better understanding of where each other stands, Robbo, Jasmine and Grace become more united as a family. Jasmine purchases a pram for Grace to show her support and Robbo finally accepts Jasmine's help.
