Episode 7013 | Airs Wednesday 30 Jan 2019 at 13:15 and 18:00 GMT on Channel 5
Colby and Dean try to jog Karen’s memory about the last time she spoke to Colby’s stepdad Ross. Karen is heavily medicated and easily distracted, but Colby hopes she might know something that will lead them to Bella. However, his desperation to get to the truth only feeds Karen’s anxiety and she soon begins to unravel.
Horrific memories come flooding back and Karen reveals long held secrets – Colby’s mother, Michelle, is dead. Ross killed her and he’ll kill Colby too, if given the chance. Colby is shocked to the core, devastated that he never got a chance to say goodbye to his mother. Even worse is that Bella has been left in the care of a murderer for the past five years.
Colby turns on Karen, insisting that she should have told him. Karen becomes overwhelmed by Colby’s harsh words and demands to be taken back to her room. Dean and Colby return to the Bay, where a worried Chelsea is waiting. Seeing that Colby is downcast, she comforts him as he reveals the devastating news that he has learned.
Later that night, Dean receives a phone call from Karen, who has remembered something vital about Michelle. Karen explains that the key to bringing Ross down is hidden in an old suitcase of hers. Dean has the suitcase in question in the boot of his car, after finding it when cleaning out Karen’s house.
Colby, Dean and Chelsea rummage through the suitcase – unsure what they are looking for until they discover a Dictaphone hidden in the lining. The trio are horrified to hear an argument between Ross and Michelle on the tape – a recording Michelle made in secret, where Ross threatens Colby and unknowingly admits to the murder of Colby’s father. Colby is infuriated – having learned that Ross killed not one of his parents but both.
What to Read Next
Determined to make Ross pay, no matter the cost, Colby considers letting Dean send the River Boys to take revenge. Dean is adamant this is the only way to get justice, but Chelsea argues they must go to the police instead – they have evidence that Ross killed Colby’s father in cold blood. Chelsea fears involving the River Boys will just result in more bloodshed, and crossing that line could mean the end of Colby’s career. It’s not an easy decision, but Colby ultimately pulls himself together and decides to listen to Chelsea. He’ll take the tape to McCarthy.
Meanwhile, at the Diner, Justin is brooding over his break-up with Willow. Irene tries to buoy him, but hearing that Willow is excited about her new PT course only makes him feel worse. Willow seems to be moving on with her life without him.
At the same time, Mason is excited after finishing his medical school exams and cajoles Justin into coming out for a celebratory drink. Once at Salt, however, Justin starts knocking back beers and Mason begins to worry his brother just wants to write himself off.
Later, a drunken Justin confides in Leah about how he needs someone more stable, reliable and kind – just like her. With a flirty twinkle in his eye, he takes her hand and starts dishing out compliments. It’s incredibly awkward for Leah, who soon beats a hasty retreat. Mason comes rushing back to the bar, having witnessed the embarrassing encounter, and dishes out some tough love to Justin.
A woefully drunk Justin ends up arriving at the beach house with Mason hot on his heels. Mason tries to talk him out of this, but Justin is too far gone to be reasoned with. He bangs loudly on the door and calls out to Willow, desperate to apologise – but wakes up Irene in the process. Fuming, Irene flings open the door and gives him an earful, explaining that Willow isn’t even home. Mason struggles to usher his drunk brother home while profusely apologising to Irene.
