7 Emmerdale storylines airing in September

A new month has arrived, so it's time for our latest round-up of Emmerdale storylines hitting our screens in the coming weeks.

With the village's many dramas ramping up ahead of the 50th-anniversary celebrations later in the year, September is sure to be an unmissable month for viewers.

1. Nicola's trauma is revisited

Nicola has bravely worked to rebuild her life, after her traumatic attack in the summer initially left her too scared to leave the house.

In upcoming scenes, this upsetting experience is revisited as Nicola realises that Charles's daughter Naomi was with the girl gang at the time of the attack.

When Naomi refuses to come clean over her involvement, Nicola struggles to cope. As Nicola becomes overwhelmed, her post-traumatic stress is revisited.

Nicola Wheeler, who plays Nicola, recently explained: "Nicola feels 100% that Naomi was there. She recoils from Naomi. Although she accuses her, she also realises she's at the cafe on her own with Naomi.

"She's petrified and it begins her agoraphobia again. She starts to get worse again. Just when she was getting better again, she hits a wall."

2. Faith prepares for the end

Faith's final scenes are expected to air in October as part of Emmerdale's 50th anniversary episodes, but her story will remain central across September too.

In upcoming scenes, Faith steps up her attempts to make the most of her final weeks alive, but her tactics raise eyebrows when she steals a chameleon from the vets to entertain her grandchildren.

Faith must also make preparations for the time when she won't be able to make her own decisions anymore, so she asks Cain to take power of attorney and insists on a Do Not Resuscitate order.

When Faith later grows confused and mistakes Cain for her late husband Shadrach, it's another worrying sign of how quickly her health is deteriorating.

3. Chas and Al play with fire

Chas was recently given a lifeline by her cousin Belle, who promised to keep quiet about her affair with Al as long as she ended things between them.

Despite receiving some home truths over her betrayal of Paddy, Chas later decided to take a major risk by ignoring Belle's demand and continuing to see Al in secret.

Over the coming weeks, we'll see Chas and Al continue to spend time with each other, with strong feelings between them continuing to grow.

With the 50th anniversary looming in October and this story expected to take centre stage, will Chas live to regret not dumping Al when she had the chance?

4. Mack struggles with his guilt

This week's episodes see Mack react badly after a major row with Charity over whether they have a future or not.

Mack sleeps with a mystery woman after Charity makes it clear that she doesn't want to try for a baby with him, but he bitterly regrets his actions when Charity later takes steps to salvage their relationship.

Mack's mystery lady later promises that their secret is safe, but he clearly isn't comfortable with the situation and decides to confide in Nate about his big mistake.

Spoilers for the coming weeks have also revealed that Mack gives serious consideration to coming clean with Charity, but will he really go through with it?

5. Leyla's story is revisited

Leyla recently made a temporary departure from the village to check into rehab after finally accepting that she had a problem with drugs.

This wasn't the end of the story, which is brought back to the forefront in the coming weeks as Leyla returns to our screens.

Advance spoilers have revealed that Leyla and her husband Liam will attend couple's therapy to discuss how the recent problems have affected their marriage.

Jai, who has his own history of drug addiction, also gives Liam some tips on how best to help Leyla in the coming weeks and months. Will this be a wake-up call for Liam?

6. More drama for Kim

Kim should be on a high as she prepares to tie the knot with Will in a few weeks' time, but the consequences of Jamie Tate's departure last year will continue to affect her.

Advance teaser spoilers, recently released in TV magazines, have revealed that Kim will worry when her granddaughter Millie is a no-show for a scheduled visit at Home Farm. Millie and her other grandmother Hazel are among the only people who know that Kim's son Jamie is still alive.

With Jamie's true fate still largely unexplored on screen, will Kim finally realise that her hunch about him still being alive was right all along?

Speaking in January, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw commented: "Up at Home Farm, we know that Jamie Tate is actually still alive, so obviously that info is still to come out. And what will Kim do once she knows?

"We know what a tough cookie Kim is, but we also know that Jamie is her Achilles' heel, so we can expect huge fireworks if she ever finds out how much he has betrayed her."

7. Jai and Laurel face another obstacle

Jai and Laurel recently decided to give their relationship another try, following the revelation that Jai had been wrongly accused of relapsing and Laurel's disastrous fling with Kit.

In upcoming scenes, it's time for Jai and Laurel to share the news that they'll be living together again, but not everybody is happy with their big news.
