Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has secured a brand new role away from the soap, with the Eileen Grimshaw actress set to join the cast of major stage show Sister Act The Musical.

The star, who has played long-suffering Eileen since 2000, will be taking on the role of head nun Mother Superior in the UK and Ireland tour of the show, joining the cast from Thursday, March 14, 2024 as the show reaches the Theatre Royal Brighton.

After making her debut in Brighton, the actress will then go on to star in shows at Manchester Palace Theatre, Cork Opera House, Grand Opera House Belfast, King's Theatre Glasgow, Grand Opera House York and the Birmingham Hippodrome.

The role is then expected to be taken over by another actor, although further casting has not yet been announced.

Sue said of her new role: "I'm thrilled to be stepping into the habit and joining the incredible company of Sister Act on tour. It's been over 30 years since I've been on stage, but theatre has always been my first love. A chance to take on a role like this feels like heaven."
