Coronation Street has been back to filming for a while now, with some episodes already including some post-lockdown scenes in with the pre-lockdown footage, which has caused some confusion.

Parts of the soap's safety and social distancing guidelines require the older cast members to not return to the set at the current time, and it is unknown when they will return.

Ken Barlow actor Bill Roache isn't too sure either, but he is hopeful that it will be sooner rather than later.

"I'm looking forward to it," he told The Mirror. "I don't want to slow down. I want to speed up!

"They have started filming again, but not for us oldies. But probably by the autumn they have said we could be back. I had no idea until they contacted me and they asked me if I wanted to go back and I said yes.

Maureen Lipman, who plays Evelyn Plummer on the ITV soap, said back in June that she expects the older actors to return to work in September, but obviously the nature of the pandemic means that this is all up in the air and subject to change.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
