Coronation Street hasn't filmed any new episodes for over a month due to the lockdown, and is currently working through the episodes it has filmed at a reduced rate.

Everyone wants it to return but, as with everything coronavirus (COVID-19) related, it's all up in the air.

Star Samia Longchambon has given us an idea of when production could resume if all goes well, and hinted at how things could be different once the cameras start rolling again.

"I don't know the exact date they have in mind but we're hoping for June," the actress told The Sun.

"Everything is crossed but they will have to sort all the safety measures and social distancing first. Nothing will happen until they are sure we are all safe.

"But it will be very different, almost like going back to school because many of us are so used to doing what we do. The show will look a bit different when we come back. We might not have big scenes in The Rovers or the bistro for a long time.

"They are going to write COVID into the show because they still want viewers to be able to relate to it, plus it would be strange if we didn't mention it. But it will be light-hearted too — that's a big part of the show."

The soap's producer Iain MacLeod previously talked about the show referencing the pandemic, stating that they have to reflect modern Britain but also provide escapism.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
