Taking to Instagram Stories to shut down criticism, the actress wrote:

"Why you gotta make a lovely friendship your headline? You guys are weird... For real. I'm lucky to have people in the business extend their time to help me further my career and offer their wisdom and guidance.

"I'm very blessed to have amazing people in my life. You don't get to choose that for me. It's nice to have people understand what I do. Now get back to talking about real problems in this world other than my friendships... jeez.

"To all the supporters: I love you guys. Thank you for supporting me. Many thanks to you guys. Sending my love to wherever you are in the world."

The response followed after Millie was asked about her unlikely friendship with Drake in an interview with Access during the Emmys red carpet.

"Ahh, I love him," Millie said. "I met him in Australia and he's honestly so fantastic and a great friend, and a great role model.

"We just texted each other the other day and he was like, 'I miss you so much,' and I was like 'I miss you more'," she added. "He's coming to Atlanta and I'm definitely going to go and see him. I'm so excited. [He gives me advice] about boys, he helps me. He's great. He's wonderful. I love him."

The pair first met at a Drake gig in Brisbane in November 2017, when Millie headed back stage and later shared a snap of the pair hanging out on Instagram.

"This guy... ❤️," she wrote to her 17 million followers, before Drake later also shared a picture of the two of them with the caption: "Hawkins Very Own."

Stranger Things returns in 2019.
