Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating and Shane Lynch confirmed on Twitter on Monday (April 30) that they will be retiring as a group following the release of one last album in honour of their late band member Stephen Gately.
"The new is out and yes it's true," they tweeted. "Our new album will be the last for Boyzone. We've had 25 amazing years and we promise you that this will be our biggest and best year yet."
According to The Sun, their farewell record will include newly-recovered recordings of songs that Gately made before his death in 2009. His bandmates have contributed fresh vocals to these tracks, with an eye to release them later this year.
Boyzone are also apparently collaborating with singer-songwriters Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith on original tracks for their swansong.
The 'No Matter What' band previously announced last spring that they would be embarking on a 25th anniversary celebration in honour of their formation in 1993.
A statement on Instagram read: "2018 will see Boyzone celebrate their 25th anniversary! That's something that Ronan, Keith, Mikey & Shane are incredibly proud of. Plans are being hatched for new music and lots of touring throughout the year."
Boyzone scored six number-one singles in the UK and have been ranked by the Official Charts Company as one of the most successful boybands in the history of the UK pop charts.

The original line-up dominated the pop scene between 1993 and 2000, before Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating and Shane Lynch chose to continue on as a foursome following Gately's death in 2009.
