The world's grumpiest cat – who is actually a girl named Tardar Sauce, FYI – has won a big court victory.

Grumpy Cat and her owner, Tabatha Bundesen, have got their paws on a whopping amount of money following a dispute over drinks called 'Grumpiccionos'.

Bundesen, signed a contract with Granade Beverage to make a line of drinks back in 2013.

However Tabatha's own company Grumpy Cat Ltd (yep, really) launched a copyright infringement case, accusing Granade of using the cat's likeness on a bunch of other products beyond the scope of their original agreement, including ground coffee.

AFP accessed the Californian court documents which revealed the court found in Tabatha's favour – awarding her and her beloved pet the apparently random amount of $710,001. So that's $710,000 for copyright damages, plus $1 for breach of contract.

David Jonelis, who is the lawyer for Grumpy Cat (and her human), told AFP: "We asked the jury what they thought was right and they came to the right conclusion".

He added that he believed it was the first time an internet meme had won a court victory.

Grumpy Cat is now 5 years old and originally shot to fame after her image was shared on Reddit by Tabatha's brother. The cat has dwarfism and an underbite, which give her a uniquely grumpy look that has taken the world by storm.

Since then she's gone on to global fame with a range of products at Primark, her own books (yes, more than one book), her very own Madame Tussauds waxwork and of course, her own TV movie where she was voiced by Legion star Aubrey Plaza.

For now, here's a throwback to when Digital Spy was lucky enough to meet Grumpy Cat in the flesh/fur. She was so chuffed to meet us, obviously.
