The toe-curling clip comes after Heard pleaded guilty to providing a false immigration document to officials when bringing her Yorkshire terriers Pistol and Boo into the country.

"Australia is a wonderful island with a treasure trove of unique plants, animals and people," Heard said in the video.

"Australia is free of many pests that are commonplace in other places around the world. That is why Australia has to have such strong biosecurity laws."

Depp added: "Australians are just as unique - both warm and direct. When you disrespect Australian law they will tell you firmly."

Heard added: "I am truly sorry Pistol and Boo were not declared. Protecting Australia is important."

Depp was in Queensland filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales last year when Heard is thought to have brought the dogs in a private jet.

The video was posted to the Facebook page of Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce, who brought widespread attention to the case when he said the dogs had to "bugger off" back to the US.
