Prosecutors dropped the two more serious charges of illegal importation that would have carried a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.

The actress had been accused of smuggling her and husband Johnny Depp's two Yorkshire terriers Pistol and Boo into Australia in May 2015 after the dogs entered the country without the proper permits.

Depp accompanied his wife to the hearing in Queensland, Australia on Monday (April 18), where Heard's lawyers reportedly told the court their client had prepared a video expressing her remorse as well as her recognition for Australia's border protection laws.

The charge of providing a false document on entry to Australia under the migration act could see Heard facing a maximum of one year in prison and a $10,200 AUS fine.
