Countdown star Rachel Riley has apologised to Jedward after making a remark about their career while criticising Wiley's anti-Semitic rants.

Wiley spent many hours of Friday night (July 24) posting conspiracy theories and hate speech against Jewish people. He was dropped by his management and has been temporarily banned from Twitter and Instagram for his actions.

In response to his tweets, Rachel wrote: "He could have just done a duet with Jedward if he was that keen to end his career.

"An unprompted, still going, public antisemitic breakdown is a bizarre route to go down."

Former X Factor stars John and Edward weren't impressed with their names being dragged into the conversation, tweeting her to say: "You are a patron for a Center for Countering Digital Hate? And yet here you are spreading Hate!! As anti bullying ambassadors we don’t approve of this!"

"Genuinely didn't mean any offence to you," Rachel responded, adding "was just a joke and you were the least grime people I could think of.

"Just deleted the tweet. Sorry boys. Sending you both love."

The duo replied to wish Rachel luck with "the countdown", although they did add a photo of her with the word 'whatever' on the letters board.

Rachel also posted a further tweet apologising for the "totally flippant" post and stressing that "no offence intended... they're nice boys and I didn't think of the cumulative impact of jokes".

Jedward also told The Mirror: "As anti bullying ambassadors for the Princess Diana Trust we felt obligated to comment on Rachel's Tweet, in the hope that she would realise that it was hurtful to us.

"We would hope that someone who has taken on a similar anti bullying ambassadorship would have known better than to pass a comment such as this.

"However, we understand that people sometimes say and do things they may not always mean or do not understand the impact it can have in others. We hope Rachel is taking this opportunity to grow from this situation and in future will think before she tweets."

Since their time on The X Factor, Jedward have actually managed to carve out a solid career.

They did Celebrity Big Brother and Eurovision multiple times, became friends with Tara Reid and William Shatner, appeared in the Sharknado movies and released their fourth studio album last year.
