Countdown star Susie Dent has revealed she suffered a cancer scare, with the lexicographer recalling that she had a lesion removed.
The Dictionary Corner stalwart appeared opposite Chris Evans on his Virgin Radio Show, revealing that she visited a doctor after a makeup artist noticed the suspicious cut under her eye.
"I had one under my eye, a few years ago now - it just felt like a little cut," said Dent. "So it was kind of a linear one - [it] just wouldn't heal. I just kept putting lots of different cream on it. So, I had it for too long. I had it for about a year.

"My GP said: 'I'm going to say the word carcinoma, but don't panic.' And then they took it off, they kind of excised it. So, I've got a bit of a kind of scar under my eye. This one doesn't spread, so we were really lucky. I genuinely just thought: 'I have cut my eye'.
"I didn't think about it from one week to the next. And it was my makeup artist that said: 'I think you should get that checked out.' Just beware, because they don't always look like moles or things that you would expect, and they can just look like little cuts."

Evans opened up on his own skin cancer diagnosis earlier this month, revealing that he has now been given the all clear after surgery.
"And so, at quarter-to-four last Thursday (September 14), I had cancer and at quarter-to-five, I didn't. And I just found that out last night. And that's because time is your biggest weapon against it, if you have an abundance of it, and its biggest weapon against you if you have a lack of it."

Dent has appeared on Countdown since 1992, with the Channel 4 show recently undergoing some change as Colin Murray took over hosting duties from Anne Robinson.
"It's a career dream to be named as permanent anchor of one of television's most iconic programmes," he said of his appointment. "I have been a fan since day one, been part of the family for over a decade, appearing on Dictionary Corner, and now I get the honour of guiding it into a fifth decade."
Countdown airs on weekday afternoons on Channel 4.
